How To Tighten Loose Skin

How To Tighten Loose Skin

by

You don’t even wear loose-fitting jeans anymore, so why would you want to deal with loose, sagging skin? Unfortunately, for most guys, sagging skin is a reality you’ll experience at some point in the game, and correcting it isn’t as easy as swapping out your baggy jeans for a skinnier fit.

Loose skin can happen for numerous reasons. We’ll cover those and give you the rundown on what options are available for correcting sagging skin, from surgeries to non-invasive at-home remedies.

What Causes Loose Skin?

Loose skin means skin that doesn’t snap back into place like it once did. It can also refer to deeply wrinkled skin or feels uncomfortable like it’s hanging on your bones. Here’s what’s going on.

1. You’re Getting Older

Collagen and elastin are two proteins that make up the structure of your skin. They help your skin maintain its structure. Collagen keeps skin feeling firm and prevents fine lines and wrinkles from forming. Elastin helps your skin snap back into place when it’s been stretched.

As you get older, you lose collagen and elastin at a rate of 1 percent per year (starting at age 20). This loss creates skin that is saggier and wrinklier the older you get.

Sun Damage

You already know UV rays damage your skin, but did you know that they also cause your skin to sag? The sun breaks down collagen and elastin production causing wrinkles, freckles, skin sagging, and of course, increasing your risk of developing skin issues.

Sun damage is the leading cause of sagging, crepey skin, and it’s highly avoidable with proper sun protection.

Free Radicals

No, it’s not the name of a college jam band. Free radicals are unbalanced molecules that damage your skin cells. It goes something like this:

Free radicals have an uneven number of electrons, so they try to steal electrons from other molecules. When they do, they damage the cell where the molecule lives. The damage hurts the cells’ DNA.

In your skin, this means your skin cells cannot properly make collagen and elastin, can’t repair themselves properly, and lose their function.

Free radicals are everywhere, but the main sources are the sun, pollution, smoking, and alcohol (don’t shoot the messenger).

Weight Gain and Loss

Extreme weight gain and loss can also cause the skin to sag. If you’ve had a friend who’s gone through a pregnancy, they’ve probably complained about sagging, wrinkly skin after their baby was born.

Bariatric surgery can cause rapid weight loss that results in extra skin, especially on the upper arms and around the midsection.

Ways To Tighten Loose Skin

There is zero shortage of treatment options for dealing with loose skin, from surgeries to creams and serums. Depending on your skin and budget, there’s a remedy that’s right for you.

Surgery

Surgeries to tighten skin might seem extreme, but in some cases, it’s the only solution. For instance, getting rid of excess skin makes you a good candidate for surgical intervention if you’ve had weight loss surgery.

Suppose you’re just contemplating a face-lift because you’re not happy with a few fine lines and wrinkles. In that case, you should know it’s an invasive procedure that comes along with a significant amount of discomfort, swelling, incisions, and a few scars.

Laser Treatment and Ultrasound Therapy

You can channel your inner Dr. Evil and get a “laser” treatment as a non-surgical skin tightening alternative. Numerous options are available, including Ultherapy (ultrasound therapy), which stimulates collagen production and increases skin tightening.

Lasers and ultrasound use radiofrequency technology to help rebuild your skin over time. You’ll likely need numerous treatments, and the expense can add up. There may also be side effects depending on the procedure you choose. Some laser devices are harder on the skin than others.

However, with laser resurfacing, peels, or other procedures you get in your dermatologist’s office, you won’t have as much downtime as you will with a surgical procedure.

Start At Home

Most guys just want a solution for loose skin they can use at home. Lucky for you, Disco’s got you covered. If it’s a non-invasive skin tightening measure you want, we deliver.

Our products are formulated to work with the specific pH balance of men’s skin. Unlike the products that line most store shelves designed for women’s skin, our products consider that your skin is tougher, thicker, and capable of producing facial hair.

For sagging skin, we recommend the following.

  • Mineral Sun Block. Sun protection without chemicals. Our sunscreen contains zinc oxide to protect you from damaging sun exposure along with tripeptides to help stimulate collagen production, repair damaged skin, and help rebuild your dermal layer.
Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, keeping your skin looking and feeling firm.
  • Hydrating Face Moisturizer. Disco’s hydrating face moisturizers contain moisturizing and hydrating vitamin E to keep skin soft and hydrated. We also throw in vitamin C, nature’s most powerful antioxidant, to help protect your skin against free radical damage.
Our moisturizer works to keep your skin’s surface smooth and protected all day and deliver noticeable results.

If you aren’t using a full skincare routine, dude, it is time. We make it easy by supplying everything you need to keep your skin looking sexy without clogging up your pores or your bathroom counter with unnecessary ingredients or products.
