It’s ironic, isn’t it? The one skincare product we’re pretty sure every guy out is already using regularly is arguably the one most harmful to your body. That antiperspirant body spray that soaks your underarms everyday might make you smell good by keeping body odor at bay, but it’s actually actively working against you with its active ingredients.
After spending the last few years doing a deep dive into the ingredients used in common skincare products, all of us here at Disco are now proudly pro-deodorant, and anti antiperspirant. Didn’t know there was a difference between the two? That’s ok—at first, we didn’t either.
Here are the basic facts:
Deodorant breaks down bacteria that causes offensive odors.
Antiperspirant, on the other hand, purposefully clogs your sweat glands and traps toxins inside your body.
Wish we could stop there, but there’s more. Common antiperspirants include all of the following...if you haven’t switched to our all-natural deodorant yet, check the ingredients on your odor protection can:
Aluminum. Increased levels of the metal have been found in patients with dementia. Watch for aluminum compounds, too, like aluminum salts, aluminum chlorohydrate, and aluminum zirconium.
Phthalates and Triclosan, which are linked to hormone disruption.
Propylene Glycol, which is also an ingredient in...anti-freeze.
Knowledge is power, man, and we know you hate those sweat stains, but the sweat ducts in your armpits' sensitive skin deserve better.
