How To Get a Clearer Complexion

How To Get a Clearer Complexion

Got bumps? You’ve come to the right place. Whether you’re dealing with some serious facial blemishes or have a nasty rash of pimples on your back or chest, we can help.

Disco is a skincare line developed for men, by men, and specifically formulated to work with the pH balance of a man’s skin.

Chances are, the products and methods you’re using for your complexion aren’t working (otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this). Most mainstream products and solutions don’t work because:

  • They aren’t formulated for a man’s skin.
  • They contain ingredients that can be harsh and irritating to your skin.
  • You’re using the wrong products for the job.

We can help you determine why your complexion isn’t clear how to get it back to normal.

What’s Causing My Breakouts?

You thought you were way past pimple cream and borrowing your sister’s cover up, but here you are, a grown man with bumps, pimples, and skin irritations that seem to never stop.

What’s causing your breakouts in the first place?

There are a myriad of reasons why your irritated face skin could be breaking out. Stress, ineffective face washing, a crappy diet, and even lack of sleep can all trigger your body into a breakout. Here are some of the main offenders.

Hormone Changes

The same hormones (testosterone) that made you an awkward teenager with peach fuzz on your chin and a cracking voice are likely responsible for the blemished skin you’re dealing with now.

Hormone changes can trigger your skin to produce more oil, which can clog pores, promote the growth of bacteria, and lead to bumps, and testosterone is the main offender. Your hormones fluctuate during different periods in your life, so don’t be surprised if you’re able to clear your skin now and have to deal with bumps later, too.

All that heavy lifting at the gym keeps your body looking good, but if you’re not immediately hopping in the shower, you’re leaving yourself open to breakouts.

Excessive sweating from exercise, outdoor work, or a hot yoga class can mix with dirt and oil on your skin and clog pores. If you don’t shower and remove the sweat, you can expect to experience more blemishes.

As a side note, most gym gear is made from poly-nylon blends, which are known for causing breakouts, especially on the back and chest. To prevent it, get out of your gym duds as soon as you’re done working out.

Ingrown Hairs

Is it a pimple or an ingrown hair? For men, it could be either.

If you’re not shaving correctly, you could be getting razor burn and/or ingrown hairs that look like pimples. These are not only frustrating and unattractive, they’re really painful and can even lead to scarring if you pick at them.

The solution? Shave better. Before you shave, make sure your skin has been cleansed thoroughly to remove any dirt and oil. Next, exfoliate your skin. This removes the top layer of dead skin cells.

Removing the top layer of dead skin cells prevents them from getting trapped in the pores of your skin and causing ingrown hairs.

If you’re still struggling with ingrowns, shave in the direction of the hair growth instead of away from it. You may not get as close of a shave, but you’ll save yourself a lot of skin irritation. And hey, a five o’clock shadow is sexy.

How To Get a Clearer Complexion

If you can pinpoint the cause of your breakouts, you can find a solution.

However, even if you aren’t sure what’s causing your blemish-prone skin to remain blemished, you can be proactive in the fight to get it clearer. Here’s how.

Shower After the Gym

The gym, a pick-up basketball game, or an especially steamy one on one sesh with your significant other can all make you sweat. Sweat and dirt get trapped inside your pores and can breed bacteria that causes blemishes.

The solution? Move the after party to the shower. Getting the excess sweat and dirt off your skin will help keep your pores clean and reduce the amount of breakouts you see, especially on your back, chest, and butt (don’t pretend you’ve never had one there).

Shave Better

Take better care of your skin when you’re shaving. Never shave a dirty face, or even one that has been asleep all night. You should always cleanse your skin before shaving.

When your razor cuts your facial hair it leaves your pores open and exposed. If there’s dirt on your skin, it can get inside the pores.

Exfoliating before you shave can also help prevent razor burn, skin irritation, and ingrown hairs. Removing that top layer of dead skin cells so they don’t form blemishes and bumps can drastically reduce the amount of irritation you experience after shaving.

Take Better Care of Your Skin

A complexion that isn’t clear is a skin condition, and part of treating that condition is taking better care of your skin. If you don’t have a skincare routine, you need one, and it’s more than just washing your face with the same soap you use on your body.

You need skincare that works with your skin, not against it. The problem is, finding skincare that isn’t stuffed with unnatural, harsh ingredients can be a tough task. Lucky for you, Disco has you covered.

Let’s Disco

If you want clearer skin, you’ve gotta take care of it. Disco makes it easy to stick to a skincare routine that will clear your skin without getting in your way. If you’ve got a few extra minutes a day, you can get healthier, clearer skin.

It starts with a basic men’s skin care routine. Our starter set includes everything you need to start taking your skincare a little more seriously, without spending a lot of time or money. Here’s what’s inside.

  • Cleansing Stick. Get rid of all the dirt, pollution, and garbage from your day with this perfectly formulated mix of hydrating coconut oil, lightly exfoliating phytic acid, and activated charcoal.

This stick is easy to use and hardworking at the same time. Just swipe it over your skin and rinse off. It’s simple, deep cleaning, and won’t leave your skin feeling dry and stripped of moisture.

Blemish Busting Ingredient: Charcoal. Charcoal has robust toxin-absorbing properties and can help remove impurities from the skin by drawing out microparticles such as dirt, chemicals, and bacteria.
  • Exfoliating Face Scrub. Exfoliating is so essential, but you’ve got to do it right. Use a product that’s too harsh and you could end up with irritated skin and further frustration.

Disco’s scrub combines soothing aloe, apricot, chamomile, and papaya extracts to soothe irritation and gently lift away dead skin and grime. Supercharge your skin cell cycle by using this two to three times a week.

Blemish Busting Ingredient: Apricot Oil. Apricot oil is extracted from the seed of an apricot and is rich in antioxidants which help protect your skin from free radicals.  Apricot oil is also able to help soothe skin irritation, so red, blemish prone skin can settle down.
  • Hydrating Face Moisturizer. You need a moisturizer, we promise. Give your skin the hydration it needs with this blend of nourishing vitamin E. Designed to brighten and tighten your skin, our moisturizer is rich in vitamin C and macadamia oil.

Don’t worry, this moisturizer won’t clog your pores, but it will help balance out your skin’s natural moisture levels so oily spots become less oily and dry patches get the hydration they need.

Blemish Busting Ingredient: Vitamin C. Vitamin C contains antioxidants that can boost complexion by brightening and balancing uneven skin tones.

When you’re ready to level up your skincare routine, throw these two products into the mix and enjoy even clearer, healthier skin.

  • Purifying Face Mask. This ain’t your mama’s face cream. Disco’s Purifying Face Mask is the ultimate in achieving healthier, clearer skin. Apply it to your most blemish-prone areas and watch the magic happen as bentonite clay dives deep into pores to pull out dirt and oil that cause blemishes.

Soothing willow bark extract keeps your skin cool, calm and collected and fully hydrated.

Blemish Busting Ingredient: Bentonite Clay. Bentonite Clay is a heavy hitter for battling oily and blemish-prone skin. If you’re struggling with acne or breakouts, treat it naturally with this mineral rich ingredient best known for detoxifying your skin.

    Bonus: also contains charcoal!
  • Invigorating Body Wash. You don’t just get bumps on your face, so don’t leave your body out of the skincare club. Our body wash is lightly scented with natural fragrance and ingredients to help keep you clean and remove gunk that causes body odor.

Specially formulated with hydrating and restorative ingredients like aloe and papaya, this wash won’t leave you dry like typical bar soap.

Backne Busting Ingredient: Horsetail. This all natural plant extract is loaded with antioxidants to help smooth and soothe irritated skin. It helps to wash away dead skin cells and promote new skin cells.

A healthier, clear complexion? It’s possible, you just have to fight for it. Our line of products makes it easy to get back in the ring and give your breakouts a TKO.
